Frequently Asked Questions

Live Wedding & Event Painting Questions

  • I arrive 1 1/2 - 2 hours early to lay the foundation of the painting and sketch out the scene. That way, when guests arrive they get to watch the fun parts of adding color and detail! As they watch I chat, answer questions, and give them a fun experience.

  • For weddings, the painting will be set on the guest table unless other arrangements are made. For other events, we can arrange who to give the painting to at the end. By default I always leave the painting with you at the end of the night, but if the painting must be shipped it will be at the cost of the client.

  • My style is impressionistic watercolor! Rather than capturing a photorealistic rendering (that’s what we have photographers for, right?) I focus on capturing the feeling of the evening through bright colors and fun brushstrokes. Every painting is unique so there is no way to predict exactly what it will look like, but I will always incorporate specific colors or elements that you’d like to see!

  • Yes! In this case, I will arrive to the venue extra early so that one painting will be completed by the end of the ceremony. The second painting will be started and completed by the end of the reception.

  • Yes! It is more than possible to create a finished, professional level painting in one night. My impressionistic style naturally lends itself to producing a quicker process, and watercolors dry and can be layered fairly quickly.

  • For weddings, I will start in either the ceremony or reception/cocktail hour. If you’d like the ceremony painted, I will begin there and move into the reception or cocktail hour (whichever comes first) to finish the painting. For a reception painting, the entire live painting will take place in the reception hall.

For other events the painting will take place wherever there’s a good spot to entertain and observe the scene to be painted.

  • Prices are based on size and start at $750. You may choose between sizes 16x20, 20x30, or 24x36. Please contact me and I’d love to talk more about pricing and options.

If you would like 2 paintings, there is a $100 discount.

  • I bring all the materials I need to complete your painting. My setup includes a standing easel, stretched paper, watercolor, water jar, and brushes. All I need from you and your venue is a space of about 5 feet in diameter to work in!

Live Party Favor Sketching Questions

  • Sketches can be done in either pencil or watercolor.

General Questions

  • Yes! I am based in Edmond, Oklahoma, a suburb of Oklahoma City, but I am willing to go just about anywhere! I do have a gas mileage charge for events that are 50 miles outside of Edmond, Oklahoma, and events that require a 4 hour drive or more will require a hotel charge as well. Contact me here to inquire about costs for specific locations.

  • For all live art events, a nonrefundable reatiner fee of 25% of the total cost will be due upon signing the contract in order to reserve your date. The remaining amount will be due 30 days before the event date.

  • I accept payments online from any major credit or debit card, as well as check or Venmo. When the time comes you will be sent an invoice through email.

  • I would love to! If you have any photos of your painting during the event, or photos of it hanging up afterward, you can tag me on instagram @eltonfineart or email them to me at eltonfineart@gmail.com .
